    COLUMBUS -- Eventually, anyone who eats food produced in Ohio may see -- or taste -- the benefits of some recent equipment donated to The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).

    In addition to a new teaching tool for food science students, the gift from nine corporate donors will provide hands-on training and applied research opportunities for Ohio’s food industry professionals and entrepreneurs.

    COLUMBUS, Ohio -- When Lea Richards first stepped into the pilot food processing plant of Ohio State University's Food Industries Center, she was taken aback.

    "I was really amazed at the breadth of equipment that you have under one roof," said Richards, owner and operator of Pig of the Month BBQ. "There's all kinds of kettles, fryers, canning equipment, ovens for baking, a huge popcorn popper.

    "It's a great way to get your feet wet if you're just starting out in the business, before you spend a ton of money."

  4. Acidified Foods Better Process Control School meets FDA regulations

    The Food Industries Center is hosting the Better Process Control School (BPCS) for Acidified Foods on Wednesday (6/14) - Thursday (6/15). BPCS satisfies the training requirements specified in both the FDA and USDA regulations designed to prevent public health problems in acidified canned foods. Daily lectures by distinguished speakers, covering food safety topics including microbiology, acidified foods, container closures and handling, thermal processing, and records and recordkeeping will be covered.

    The Food Industries Center is hosting Ohio State’s 46th annual Better Process Control School (BPCS) on Monday (3/13) - Thursday (3/16). BPCS satisfies the training requirements specified in both the FDA and USDA regulations designed to prevent public health problems in low-acid and acidified low-acid canned foods. Daily lectures by distinguished speakers, covering food safety topics including microbiology, acidified and low-acid foods, container closures and handling, thermal processing, and records and recordkeeping will be covered.

    If you have not had HACCP training for several years, this workshop is for you! Because of the Food Safety Modernization Act’s (FSMA) food safety plan requirement, you need to stay current on what’s happening with HACCP, as well as maintaining current HACCP training credentials.

    We are now accepting registrations for our 2016 Better Process Control School. This four day course satisfies the training requirements specified in both the FDA and USDA regulations designed to prevent public health problems in low-acid and acidified low-acid canned foods.

    This year's course will be held on March 14-17, 2016 on the campus of the Ohio State Univeristy in Columbus, Ohio.
